How to Create Asset Types

Set up templates that define how each type of asset should be managed.

Overview

Asset Types are templates that define how a category of assets should be managed. Think of them as the rules that every individual asset of that type must follow. For example, if you have 10 harnesses, you'd create one "Harness" Asset Type, then create 10 individual harness assets from it.

This saves time because settings like shelf life, working life, and inspection requirements are set once in the Asset Type and automatically apply to every asset you create from it.

Accessing Asset Types

Go to Main Menu → Assets → Asset Types.

Creating a New Asset Type

  1. Click the "Add New" button in the top corner
  2. Enter the Item Name (e.g., "Harness", "Hard Hat", "Heat Gun")
  3. Select a Category from the dropdown:
    • PPE
    • Test Equipment
    • Tools
    • Lifting Equipment
    • Ladders
    • Vehicles
    • Keys and Access Cards
    • Other
  4. Configure the optional settings based on your needs (see below)
  5. Click Save

Configuration Options

Shelf Life and Working Life

Set how long assets of this type last. For example, hard hats might have a 5-year shelf life from manufacture. All hard hats you create will inherit this setting.

Is Electrical

Toggle this on if the asset type requires PAT testing. This enables electrical testing tracking for assets of this type.

Calibration Required

Enable this for test equipment that needs regular calibration.

Certificate Requirements

You can require internal certificates (generated through XMP inspections) or external certificates (uploaded documents like manufacturer conformity certificates).

Inspection Questions

Add custom questions that must be answered when inspecting assets of this type. For example, a hard hat inspection might include "Is there any visible damage?" or "Are all straps intact?"

Next Steps

Once you've created your Asset Types, you'll need to set up Location Leads before you can start adding individual assets.
